Julian Fernando Casablancas is an American singer, musician and songwriter, best known as the lead vocalist and primary songwriter of rock band The Strokes, with whom he has released six studio albums since their founding in 1998. Casablancas released a solo album, Phrazes for the Young, in 2009.

His father is John Casablancas, founder of Elite Model Management and his mother is Jeanette Christiansen. Julian has two brothers, Alexander and Nicholas.
Julian began playing music at a young age, taking piano lessons from the age of eight. In 1997 he formed a band with friends Albert Hammond Jr., Nick Valensi and Fabrizio Moretti called The Strokes. They released their debut album titled ‘Is This It’ in 2001 which gained them critical acclaim and commercial success. Since then they have released four more albums together including 2013's 'Comedown Machine'.
In 2009 he released his solo debut album 'Phrazes for the Young' which was followed by 'Culture of Fear' in 2011 and most recently 'Tyranny' in 2014. Alongside this he has collaborated with numerous artists such as Santigold and Daft Punk. He also served as executive producer for Karen O's solo debut album 'Crush Songs'.
Julian is also well known for his activism having been involved with organisations such as Amnesty International and Human Rights Watch along with campaigning to end gun violence in America.
