Elizabeth Shaila "Liza" Koshy (born March 31, 1996), is an American media personality and actress. Her main YouTube channel has amassed more than 17 million subscribers, and her two channels have a combined total of over 3 billion views.
Liza Koshy was born Elizabeth Koshy on March 31st, 1996 in Houston, Texas. She is of Indian and Caucasian descent. Her father is from India and her mother is of Irish-American, German-American, and Norwegian-American descent. Koshy grew up in Houston with her parents and older sister Olga, attending Lamar High School. After graduating high school she attended the University of Houston but dropped out after one year to pursue a career on YouTube.
Koshy started her YouTube channel Lizzza in 2013 when she was 17 years old. In the beginning, her videos were mainly focused on comedy skits and sketches but over time they became more varied as she began to post vlogs, challenges, beauty tutorials, pranks, and other content. Her channel quickly gained recognition for its comedic style which resonated with viewers around the globe and soon she was featured on popular news outlets like The Ellen Degeneres Show, Good Morning America and The Today Show.
In 2015 Koshy won the Teen Choice Award for “Choice Web Star: Comedy” and shortly afterwards signed an exclusive deal with AwesomenessTV. In 2016 Koshy starred in Tyler Oakley’s web series “Psychobabble” and released a book called “Liza Koshy: My Life As A Hot Mess” which debuted at number three on The New York Times bestseller list. In 2018 she made her film debut with a starring role in “Boo! A Madea Halloween” followed by roles in films such as “Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle” (2017) and “The Babysitter: Killer Queen” (2020).
Koshy currently has over 20 million subscribers across her multiple platforms including YouTube where she regularly posts comedic sketches that have amassed hundreds of millions of views.
