Curtis James Jackson III, better known by his stage name 50 Cent, was born on July 6, 1975 in South Jamaica, Queens, New York. He is an American rapper, actor and businessman. His mother Sabrina gave birth to him at the age of 15. She raised him alone until she died when he was 8 years old. After her death, he lived with his grandparents and was heavily influenced by the art of rap music.
50 Cent started selling drugs at the age of 12 after being expelled from school for bad grades. He later joined a local drug-dealing gang called “Sell Out Boys” and quickly rose up the ranks to become their leader. In 1994, he was arrested for dealing crack cocaine and sentenced to three-to-nine years in prison. After serving six months in jail, he got out on parole and decided to pursue a career in rap music instead of going back to selling drugs.
In 2002, 50 Cent signed with Eminem's label Shady Records and released his debut album "Get Rich or Die Tryin'", which became one of the top-selling albums of 2003 and won him several awards including two Grammy nominations. The success of this album also helped launch 50 Cent's acting career as he appeared in several movies over the following years such as "Get Rich or Die Tryin'" (2005), "Righteous Kill" (2008) and "12 Rounds" (2009).
In addition to his music career, 50 Cent has also established himself as an entrepreneur through investments in Vitamin Water and other companies such as Branson Cognac. He has also created his own clothing line G-Unit Clothing Company which he launched in 2003. As of 2020, 50 Cent has sold over 30 million albums worldwide and is estimated to be worth around $30 million dollars
