Alexander David Turner is an English musician, singer, songwriter, and record producer. He is well known as the frontman and principal songwriter of the rock band Arctic Monkeys, with whom he has released seven albums.
Alex Turner is an English singer, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist best known as the lead vocalist and main songwriter of the indie rock band Arctic Monkeys. Born in High Green, Sheffield on January 6th 1986, Turner was raised by his mother Penny and father David, who both worked in local secondary schools. He attended Stocksbridge High School where he developed an interest in music which had been encouraged by his parents.
Turner became a member of Arctic Monkeys in 2002 when he was sixteen years old and they went on to become one of the most successful bands of the 2000s. The band released five albums since their debut in 2006 with Turner writing or co-writing all of their songs; two of these albums won Best Album at the NME Awards. In 2007 Turner released an album with Miles Kane under the name The Last Shadow Puppets; it received critical acclaim and achieved success in the UK Albums Chart.
In 2009 Turner began writing for his debut solo album which was released as Submarine: Original Motion Picture Soundtrack in 2011. He continued to collaborate with other artists including Tame Impala's Kevin Parker, Mini Mansions' Zach Dawes and Josh Homme from Queens Of The Stone Age. In 2019 he released his second solo album Tranquility Base Hotel & Casino which debuted at number one on the UK Albums Chart.
Outside of music, Turner has written articles for magazines such as GQ and Rolling Stone and appeared in films like Submarine (2010) and Richard Ayoade's The Double (2013).
