About

Alexis Bledel was born on September 16, 1981 in Houston, Texas. She is the daughter of Martin and Nanette Bledel, who are both originally from Latin America. Her father was a Mexican-American while her mother is Argentinian. She has an older brother named Eric. Growing up, Bledel developed a love for acting and began appearing in local productions at a young age.

At the age of 16, she won a modeling competition that allowed her to move to New York City and pursue her career as an actress and model. She began attending NYU’s Tisch School of Arts as a film major in 2000 but left after two years to focus on her acting career full time.

In 2001, Bledel appeared in several television shows and movies including “Gilmore Girls”, “The West Wing”, “Sin City” and “Tuck Everlasting”. She also received critical acclaim for her role as Lena Kaligaris in the 2005 movie adaptation of Ann Brashares' popular novel “The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants”. In 2006 she reprised her role in the sequel “The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants 2” and starred alongside Blake Lively in the 2008 drama “The Private Lives of Pippa Lee”.

Bledel's most recent roles include appearances on HBO's hit series "Girls" as well as Netflix's "The Handmaid's Tale". In addition to acting, Bledel is also an accomplished producer with credits on projects such as "Remember Sunday" (2013) and "Violet & Daisy" (2012).
