Amanda Michelle Seyfried was born on December 3, 1985 in Allentown, Pennsylvania. She is an American actress and singer-songwriter with German and English ancestry. She has two sisters named Jennifer and Emily, and a brother named Benjamin. As a child, her mother encouraged her to take acting classes, which she did at the age of 11. 

At age 15, Seyfried made her feature film debut in the 2004 movie Mean Girls. She went on to star in films such as Alpha Dog (2006), Mamma Mia! (2008), Dear John (2010) and Les Misérables (2012). In addition to her film roles, Seyfried starred in the HBO series Big Love (2006–2011). 

In 2019 she received critical acclaim for her performance as Marion Davies in David Fincher’s biographical drama Mank. Her other notable film credits include Lovelace (2013), Ted 2 (2015) The Art of Racing in the Rain (2019) and The Last Word (2017). 

Seyfried also released two studio albums: I'm Through with Love (2007) and Little House On The Prairie Theme Song(2009). 

Seyfried has been nominated for various awards including Satellite Awards for Best Actress for Letters to Juliet (2010) and Best Supporting Actress for Les Misérables (2012). She won a Golden Globe Award for Best Actress – Television Series Musical or Comedy for Big Love in 2009.
