Anthony Hopkins was born on December 31, 1937, in Margam, Wales. His zodiac sign is Capricorn and his ethnicity is Caucasian. He is the son of Muriel Yeats and Richard Arthur Hopkins, a baker. He had two siblings and was raised by their mother after his father abandoned them when he was two years old. 

Hopkins attended Cowbridge Grammar School where he developed an interest in acting. He then attended the Royal Welsh College of Music & Drama in Cardiff before moving to London to attend the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art (RADA). After RADA, he began working in theater productions, eventually making film appearances with movies such as 'The Lion In Winter' (1968) and 'A Doll's House' (1973).

In 1981, he made his breakthrough performance as Dr. Hannibal Lecter in 'The Silence Of The Lambs', a role for which he won an Oscar for Best Actor in 1992. Since then, he has starred in numerous acclaimed films such as 'Howards End' (1992), 'Amistad' (1997), 'Nixon' (1995), 'Hannibal' (2001), 'Proof' (2005), and 'Thor' (2011).

He has been nominated for four Golden Globe Awards and five Emmys throughout his career. He received an honorary doctorate from the University of Wales in 1994 and was knighted by Queen Elizabeth II in 1993 for his services to performing arts. In 2020, Hopkins received a BAFTA Fellowship Award for outstanding contribution to film industry.
