Billie Piper was born on September 22, 1982 in Swindon, England. Her birth name is Leian Paul Piper, and she is the daughter of Paul Victor Piper and Mandy Kane Kent. Billie's parents separated when she was 7 years old and she was raised by her mother in Swindon. She studied at the Sylvia Young Theatre School from an early age and started her career as a pop singer at the age of 15, releasing her debut single "Because We Want To" which went straight to number one in the UK charts. 

She released two other albums over the next two years before deciding to focus on acting rather than singing. In 1998, Billie made her television debut playing Rose Tyler in Doctor Who, which earned her critical acclaim and led to further roles in Secret Diary of a Call Girl (2007-11), Penny Dreadful (2014-16) and Collateral (2018). Alongside her television work she has starred in several films such as The Calcium Kid (2004), Things to do Before You're 30 (2005) and How I Live Now (2013).

In addition to acting, Billie is also a published author having written two autobiographies Growing Pains (2003) and Billy (2006). She is currently married to actor Laurence Fox with whom she has two children; Winston James Fox born 2008 and Eugene Pip Fox born 2012.
