Bret Michaels was born Bret Michael Sychak on March 15, 1963 in Butler, Pennsylvania. He is an American singer-songwriter and musician who rose to fame as the lead vocalist of the glam metal band Poison. His work has earned him multiple Grammy nominations and a number of awards.

Michaels began his career by performing at local clubs when he was 16 years old and eventually formedPoison in 1983 with Rikki Rockett, Bobby Dall, and CC DeVille. The band released their debut album Look What the Cat Dragged In in 1986 which sold more than 3 million copies in the US alone. They went on to release several more albums including Open Up and Say...Ahh! (1988), Flesh & Blood (1990), Native Tongue (1993), Crack a Smile...and More! (2000) and Hollyweird (2002).

In addition to his work with Poison, Michaels has released four solo albums: A Letter from Death Row (1998), Songs of Life (2003), Freedom of Sound (2005) and Custom Built (2007). He also starred in the reality television series Rock of Love with Bret Michaels from 2007 to 2009. He has since appeared in other TV shows such as Celebrity Apprentice, Don't Forget the Lyrics!, Price Is Right Live! among others. Michaels is currently working on a new solo album titled True Grit which is set to be released later this year.
