Bruce Lorne Campbell is an American actor and director. He is known for portraying Ash Williams in Sam Raimi's Evil Dead franchise, beginning with the 1978 short film Within the Woods. He has starred in many low-budget cult films such as Crimewave, Maniac Cop, Sundown: The Vampire in Retreat, and Bubba Ho-Tep.

Bruce Lorne Campbell was born on June 22, 1958, in Royal Oak, Michigan. His zodiac sign is Cancer, and his ethnicity is American. He is the son of Joanne Louise and Charles Newton Campbell, and he has three siblings. Campbell attended Western Michigan University for two years before dropping out to pursue an acting career.

Campbell’s first role was as a soldier in the 1979 horror film “The Evil Dead” which was written and directed by Sam Raimi. The film gained cult status due to its gory special effects, dark humour and innovative filming techniques. In 1987 he starred in “Evil Dead II” which developed a bigger fan base than the original movie. He then starred in “Army of Darkness” in 1992 which further cemented his place as a cult icon within the horror genre. 

In the late 1980s, Campbell began appearing in more mainstream films such as “Crimewave” (1985), “Maniac Cop” (1988) and “Sundown: The Vampire in Retreat” (1991). He also appeared in TV shows such as “Hercules: The Legendary Journeys” (1995-1999) and “Xena: Warrior Princess” (1996-2001). In 1999, he made his directorial debut with the comedy-drama film "Man with the Screaming Brain". 

In 2006 Campbell returned to the horror genre when he starred in the remake of "The Wicker Man" alongside Nicolas Cage. This film received negative reviews from critics but it still managed to gross over $40 million at the box office worldwide. He later appeared in films like “My Name is Bruce” (2007), “Bubba Ho-Tep” (2002) and “Oz The Great and Powerful” (2013). He also had a recurring role on USA Network's “Burn Notice” (2007-2013). 

Most recently, Campbell reprised his role as Ash Williams for Starz series "Ash vs Evil Dead" which ran from 2015 to 2018. He has won several awards including Fangoria Chainsaw Awards for Best Actor multiple times over the years for his performances in various horror movies.
