Bruce Frederick Joseph Springsteen was born on September 23, 1949, in Long Branch, New Jersey. He is an American singer-songwriter and musician who has sold more than 135 million records worldwide. Springsteen's mother, Adele Ann Zerilli, was a legal secretary, while his father, Douglas Frederick Springsteen, was a bus driver. 

Springsteen began playing music in high school bands and eventually became part of the local rock scene. In 1972 he formed a band called The E Street Band and released his first album, Greetings from Asbury Park, NJ. The album went on to become a critical and commercial success and launched "The Boss" into stardom. His follow-up albums—Born to Run (1975) and Darkness on the Edge of Town (1978)—cemented his status as one of the most iconic musicians of the 20th century. 

In 1984 he released Born in the USA which became one of the top-selling albums of all time with singles such as “Dancing in the Dark” and “Glory Days” becoming hit songs. In 1986 he released Live/1975–85 which sold over 15 million copies worldwide making it one of the best selling live albums ever released. He has also won 20 Grammys throughout his career including Album Of The Year for his 1995 record The Ghost Of Tom Joad. 

Throughout his career Springsteen has been involved in social causes such as human rights and hunger relief around the world. He has also performed numerous charity concerts to raise money for various causes.
