John Clayton Mayer is an American singer, songwriter, and guitarist. Born and raised in Fairfield County, Connecticut, Mayer attended Berklee College of Music in Boston, but left and moved to Atlanta in 1997 with Clay Cook. Together, they formed a short-lived two-man band called Lo-Fi Masters.

John Clayton Mayer was born on October 16, 1977, in Bridgeport, Connecticut. His zodiac sign is Libra. He is the son of Margaret and Richard Mayer, who were both teachers. He grew up playing classical music and jazz before becoming a singer-songwriter in his teens. He graduated from Berklee College of Music in 1997 and moved to Atlanta to pursue a career in music.

Mayer released his first album, Room for Squares, in 2001. The album became an instant hit, spawning hits such as "Your Body Is A Wonderland" and "No Such Thing", which earned him two Grammy Awards for Best Male Pop Vocal Performance and Song of the Year for "Daughters". Mayer followed this success with more albums such as Heavier Things (2003) and Continuum (2006), which earned him several more nominations at the Grammys and won him Best Pop Vocal Album for Continuum in 2007.

In addition to recording music, Mayer also made appearances on television shows such as The Ellen DeGeneres Show and Saturday Night Live. Mayer has also acted in films like The Bucket List (2007) and provided voice work for the animated film Monsters University (2013). 

Mayer has also collaborated with other artists including Alicia Keys, Taylor Swift, B.B King, Herbie Hancock, Kanye West, and many others. In 2013 he formed Dead & Company with former Grateful Dead members Bob Weir and Mickey Hart along with Oteil Burbridge and Jeff Chimenti. The band continues to tour throughout the United States today.
