About

Belcalis Marlenis Almánzar, better known as Cardi B, was born on October 11, 1992 in The Bronx, New York. She is an American rapper, singer and songwriter. Her parents are from the Dominican Republic and she has three sisters. Growing up in poverty, Cardi dropped out of school when she was 16 to help her family financially by stripping.

In 2013, Cardi started gaining fame from her Instagram posts and videos. She then joined the reality TV show Love & Hip Hop: New York in 2015 and starred in it for two seasons until she left in 2017 to focus on her rap career. In 2016, Cardi released two mixtapes – Gangsta Bitch Music Volumes 1 and 2 – which earned her a lot of attention. She rose to international stardom with the release of her debut single “Bodak Yellow” in June 2017 which topped the US Billboard Hot 100 chart. This made Cardi the first female rapper to have a solo single top the chart without any other credited artist since Lauryn Hill in 1998.

Cardi released her debut studio album Invasion of Privacy on April 6, 2018 which debuted at number one on the US Billboard 200 chart with 255,000 album-equivalent units sold in its first week. It went on to become certified triple platinum by RIAA making it one of the most successful albums of 2018 and earning her numerous accolades including winning Best Rap Album at the 61st Grammy Awards becoming only the fifth female artist to ever win that award.

Cardi has been featured on several singles throughout 2018–19 such as Maroon 5’s “Girls Like You” and Bruno Mars’ “Finesse (Remix)” both of which peaked at number one on US Billboard Hot 100 chart and won several awards each. She is also featured on DJ Khaled's hit single “Wish Wish” featuring 21 Savage which peaked at number five on US Billboard Hot 100 chart.
