DeMarcus Amir Cousins is an American professional basketball player who last played for the Denver Nuggets of the National Basketball Association. Nicknamed "Boogie", he played college basketball for the Kentucky Wildcats, where he was an All-American in 2010.
DeMarcus Amir Cousins was born on August 13, 1990 in Mobile, Alabama. He is an American professional basketball player who currently plays for the Houston Rockets of the National Basketball Association (NBA). He attended LeFlore Magnet High School and was rated as a five-star recruit by Rivals.com. In 2010, he declared for the NBA Draft and was selected by the Sacramento Kings with the fifth overall pick.
Cousins had an immediate impact on the Kings’ organization and became an All-Star starting in his second season. He led the league in technical fouls during the 2015–16 season, but also set career highs in points per game (24.1) and rebounds per game (12.7). After six seasons with Sacramento, Cousins was traded to the New Orleans Pelicans in 2017, where he suffered a torn Achilles tendon in 2018. Following rehabilitation from his injury, Cousins signed with Golden State Warriors for one year before signing with Houston Rockets for two years in 2019.
Cousins has been named to four All-Star teams, three All-NBA teams and one All-Defensive team during his career so far. He is also a three-time winner of the Western Conference Player of the Week Award and holds several of Sacramento's franchise records including most points scored in a single game (56) and most double-doubles achieved in a single season (65).
