Temetrius Jamel "Ja" Morant is an American professional basketball player for the Memphis Grizzlies of the National Basketball Association. Nicknamed "G12", he played college basketball for the Murray State Racers, where he was a consensus first-team All-American as a sophomore in 2019.
Ja Morant was born on August 10, 1999, in Dalzell, South Carolina. His zodiac sign is Leo, and his ethnicity is African-American. Ja is the son of Tee and Tina Morant, and he has two brothers: Jamaine and Jonathan. He attended Crestwood High School where he played basketball. During his freshman season he averaged 12.7 points per game, 6.3 assists per game and 3 rebounds per game while shooting 43% from the field, 32% from three point range and 81% from the free throw line. In his sophomore season Morant skyrocketed to fame when he averaged 24.5 points per game, 10 assists per game and 5 rebounds per game while shooting 49% from the field, 36% from three point range and 85% from the free throw line. He was also named Ohio Valley Conference Player of the Year as well as being selected as an AP All-American First Team member – becoming just the second player in school history to be selected for this honor after Popeye Jones in 1992.
Morant declared for the 2019 NBA Draft after completing his sophomore season at Murray State University, and got selected by the Memphis Grizzlies with their second overall pick in June 2019. Since then he has been a major force on the team’s offense which helped them earn a spot in the 2020 NBA Playoffs despite being considered an underdog at first due to their young roster that includes himself and Jaren Jackson Jr..
