Andre Romelle Young, known professionally as Dr. Dre, is an American rapper and record producer. He is the founder and CEO of Aftermath Entertainment and Beats Electronics, and previously co-founded, co-owned, and was the president of Death Row Records.
Andre Romelle Young, better known as Dr. Dre, was born on February 18, 1965 in Compton, California. He is an American rapper, record producer and entrepreneur. His zodiac sign is Aquarius and his ethnicity is African-American. He is the son of Theodore and Verna Young; he has six siblings.
At age 16, Dr. Dre began DJing at a local club called Eve After Dark. His musical career began in 1984 when he joined the World Class Wreckin' Cru, where he was given the stage name “Dr. Dre” due to his high school nickname “Doctor”. In 1986, he formed the rap group N.W.A., which released their first album Straight Outta Compton in 1988 and went on to become one of the most successful rap groups of all time.
In 1992, Dr. Dre released his solo debut album The Chronic which debuted at number three on the US Billboard 200 chart and sold over five million copies worldwide, making it one of the best-selling hip hop albums of all time. He continued to release albums throughout the 90s including 2001 (1999), The Wash (2001) and Compton (2015).
Dr. Dre's production style played a major role in shaping West Coast hip hop culture with its distinct sound and attitude and he has been credited with producing some of the biggest hits in rap music history such as Snoop Dogg's "Gin & Juice" (1993) and Eminem's "My Name Is" (1999). He has received numerous awards for his work including two Grammy Awards and six MTV Video Music Awards as well as being inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 2020.
