Ice T is an American rapper, actor, and songwriter from Los Angeles, California. He is widely credited as one of the pioneers of gangsta rap and has had a successful career in both music and film. Ice-T has released 7 studio albums to date, which have all garnered critical acclaim.
Tracy Lauren Marrow, better known as Ice-T, was born on February 16, 1958, in Newark, New Jersey. His zodiac sign is Aquarius and his ethnicity is African-American. He was raised by his mother and stepfather in the South Central area of Los Angeles. At age 11, he moved with his family to the Crenshaw district of Los Angeles. After graduating from high school in 1976, he enlisted in the United States Army for four years and served in the 25th Infantry Division.
Ice-T began his musical career while still serving in the military; he released a single under the name “Ice T” which gained some underground attention. After returning to Los Angeles in 1981, he formed a band called “The Original Concept” and released two albums that were moderately successful but failed to make any real mainstream impact.
In 1987, Ice-T released his debut album “Rhyme Pays” which became the first rap album ever certified gold by the RIAA. The success of this album helped establish him as one of the pioneers of West Coast hip hop and rap music. Throughout his career he has released several other albums including “O.G.: Original Gangster” (1991), “Home Invasion” (1993), and “Power” (1998).
Aside from music, Ice-T also had a successful acting career appearing in films such as “New Jack City” (1991) and television shows like Law & Order: SVU where he has played Detective Fin Tutuola since 2000. He also created a reality show called “Ice Loves Coco” which aired on E! from 2011 to 2014 and featured his wife Coco Austin.
