About
Dua Lipa was born on August 22, 1995 in London, England. She is of Albanian descent and her full name is Dua (meaning "love" in Albanian) Lipa. Her father is the lead singer of an Albanian rock band called Oda and her mother, Anesa Lipa, is a tourist guide. She has one older sister named Rina and two younger siblings, Gjin and Kiano.
Growing up, Lipa attended Sylvia Young Theatre School before transferring to the William Ellis School in London. She then studied at the Britannia Row Production Studios for a short time.
Lipa's interest in music began with singing as a child and writing lyrics from the age of 14. In 2015, she signed with Warner Music Group and released her first single "New Love". The song gained immediate attention from BBC Radio 1Xtra and led to her signing with the American label Interscope Records.
In 2017, Lipa released her self-titled debut album which achieved great success internationally, reaching number three on the UK Album Chart and peaking at number six on the US Billboard 200 chart. The album included several hit singles such as "Be the One", "Hotter Than Hell", "Blow Your Mind (Mwah)", as well as her breakthrough single "New Rules".
Lipa has been nominated for numerous awards throughout her career including five Grammy Awards, four Brit Awards, one American Music Award, seventeen NME Awards and thirteen MTV Europe Music Awards where she won Best New Artist in 2017. She also holds two Guinness World Records for most Top 10 songs from a debut album on the UK Singles Chart (with nine songs) as well as most weeks on Spotify’s Global Top 50 by a female solo artist (with 80 weeks).
