Demi Lovato was born on August 20, 1992 in Albuquerque, New Mexico. She is of Mexican and Irish descent and has three sisters. Her parents divorced when she was young and her mother eventually married another man who she describes as a “fantastic father”. Lovato began her career as a child actor at the age of 7 when she appeared in the television series Barney & Friends.
Lovato rose to fame for her roles in Camp Rock and Sonny with a Chance, both Disney Channel original movies. She soon after signed with Hollywood Records and released her debut album Don't Forget in 2008. The album reached number two on the Billboard 200 chart and spawned several hit singles, including "Get Back" and "La La Land". In 2009, Lovato released her second album Here We Go Again which debuted at number one on the Billboard 200 chart and featured her breakout hit single "This Is Me" featuring Joe Jonas.
In 2010, Lovato became an advocate for mental health issues after revealing that she had been diagnosed with bipolar disorder. Since then she has become a vocal supporter of mental health awareness and has worked closely with organizations such as Mental Health America to encourage people to seek help if they are struggling with their mental health. She also entered treatment for emotional issues, bulimia nervosa, addiction and self-harm in November 2010.
Lovato's music career has continued to grow since then as she has released five albums including Confident (2015), Tell Me You Love Me (2017)and Dancing With the Devil...The Art of Starting Over (2021). Her songs have been certified multi-platinum by the RIAA in numerous countries around the world.
