Heather Deen Locklear was born on September 25, 1961 in Los Angeles, California. She is the daughter of Diane, a production executive and Bill Locklear, an administrator at UCLA. She attended UCLA and majored in English literature before dropping out to pursue acting.

Locklear began her career as an actress with small roles in various television shows before being cast as Sammy Jo Carrington on the ABC television series Dynasty in 1981. She continued to appear in popular TV series such as T.J. Hooker and Diff’rent Strokes during the 1980s before landing her first major starring role as Amanda Woodward in the Aaron Spelling-produced primetime drama Melrose Place from 1993-1999.

In the early 2000s Locklear appeared in several romantic comedy movies including The Perfect Man and Money Talks before returning to television for a 2-year recurring role on Spin City from 2002-2004. Afterward, she returned to primetime TV with stints on NBC’s sitcom Scrubs and ABC’s comedy 8 Simple Rules and had a supporting role on FX's Sons of Anarchy from 2008-2014. 

Throughout her career, Locklear has been nominated for various awards including 4 Golden Globe nominations for Best Actress – Television Series Drama (Dynasty) and Best Performance by an Actress in a Television Series – Comedy/Musical (Spin City). In 2018 she was honored with a star on The Hollywood Walk of Fame.
