Jimmy Butler III was born on September 14, 1989 in Houston, TX. He is an American professional basketball player for the Miami Heat of the National Basketball Association (NBA). He played one season of college basketball for Tyler Junior College before transferring to Marquette University. After leading the Golden Eagles to their first NCAA tournament appearance in almost a decade, he declared for the 2011 NBA draft and was selected 30th overall by the Chicago Bulls.

In his fourth season with the Bulls, Butler emerged as one of the best two-way players in the league and was selected to his first All-Star game in 2015. He was named to his second All-Star game in 2016 after averaging 20.9 points per game. In 2017, he earned All-NBA Third Team honors and became just the third player in Bulls history to be named an All-Star three times.

In June 2017, Butler was traded to the Minnesota Timberwolves where he continued to have success, earning four straight All-Star appearances from 2018–2021. In November 2018, he set a career high with 53 points against Philadelphia 76ers. After spending part of 2019–20 season with Philadelphia 76ers, Butler signed a four-year contract with Miami Heat in July 2020.
