About

Scottie Maurice Pippen was born on September 25, 1965, in Hamburg, Arkansas. He is the youngest of 12 children and the only one who attended college. His parents were Ethel and Preston Pippen. Pippen played basketball in high school at Hamburg High School and was named All-State his senior year. After high school he attended University of Central Arkansas but transferred to University of Arkansas after two years.

At the University of Arkansas, Pippen became a standout player for the Razorbacks and helped them reach the Sweet 16 in the 1989 NCAA tournament. He then declared for the 1987 NBA draft and was drafted by the Seattle SuperSonics as the fifth overall pick. He was immediately traded to the Chicago Bulls for Olden Polynice and future draft picks which would prove to be one of the best trades ever made in sports history.

Pippen quickly established himself as an all-star caliber player with his impressive defense, playmaking abilities, and athleticism. In 1991 he won his first championship with Michael Jordan and the Bulls where he averaged 19 points, 8 rebounds, 6 assists, 2 steals per game during their playoff run that year. The Bulls went on to win 3 more championships from 1992-1998 with Pippen as an integral part of every title team.

Pippen left Chicago in 1998 after 11 seasons but returned to help lead a young team led by rookie phenom Tyson Chandler back to contention and make it to a Game 7 against the New Jersey Nets in 2003 before falling short in overtime. Throughout his career Scottie Pippen has been named to seven all-star teams, eight All-NBA Teams, seven All-Defensive Teams, won six NBA Championships (1991-93; 1996-98) and was named one of fifty greatest players in NBA History in 1996.
