About

Julia Louis-Dreyfus was born on January 13, 1961 in New York City. She is the daughter of Gerard Louis-Dreyfus, a French-born billionaire businessman, and Judith Bowles. Julia has four siblings; three sisters – Phoebe, Lauren, and Emma – and one brother, Philipe. She attended Holton-Arms School in Bethesda, Maryland before attending Northwestern University where she majored in theater. 

    Julia began her career as an improvisational comedian after college with Chicago's Second City Theatre Company. From there she moved to Los Angeles and landed her first television role as a cast member on Saturday Night Live from 1982 – 1985. After SNL, she joined the cast of Seinfeld for its nine season run from 1990 to 1998 playing Elaine Benes. This role earned her numerous awards including six Emmy Awards for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series and a Golden Globe nomination. 

    After Seinfeld ended, Julia starred in the short lived sitcom Watching Ellie which ran from 2002 – 2003 and then went on to star in The New Adventures of Old Christine which aired from 2006 – 2010 earning her four Emmy Award nominations for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series. In 2012 she was cast as Vice President Selina Meyer in Veep which won her five consecutive Primetime Emmy Awards for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series and two Screen Actors Guild Awards for Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Comedy Series. 

    Julia has also appeared in numerous films including North (1994), Father’s Day (1997), A Bug’s Life (1998), Christmas with the Kranks (2004) and Enough Said (2013).
