Kim Victoria Cattrall is a British and Canadian actress. She is known for her role as Samantha Jones on HBO's Sex and the City, for which she received five Emmy Award nominations and four Golden Globe Award nominations, winning the 2002 Golden Globe for Best Supporting Actress.
Kim Cattrall was born on August 21, 1956, in Mossley Hill, Liverpool in England. She is a British-Canadian actress and activist, best known for her role as Samantha Jones in the HBO comedy series “Sex and the City” (1998-2004).
Cattrall's mother was a secretary and her father was a construction engineer. At age three she moved with her family to Canada, where she attended high school. She then studied at the American Academy of Dramatic Arts before starting her career as an actress.
In 1978, Cattrall made her film debut in Rosebud, followed by a small role in the television movie The Bastard (1978). She had minor roles in several other films before appearing in Porky's (1982). In 1985 she starred in Police Academy 2: Their First Assignment as Sgt. Callahan. During this time Cattrall also appeared on numerous television shows such as “Hill Street Blues” and “Three’s Company”.
In 1998, Cattrall was cast as Samantha Jones in the romantic comedy series “Sex and the City” which ran for six seasons until 2004. The show won multiple awards during its run and helped to establish Cattrall as an international star. Since then she has continued to work steadily with roles in films such as Ice Princess (2005), Meet Monica Velour (2010) and TV shows such as “Sensitive Skin” (2005-2006) and “Filthy Rich” (2020).
Cattrall has also been active outside of acting as an advocate for women's rights issues including reproductive rights and breast cancer awareness, for which she received an honorary degree from Simon Fraser University in 2012.
