LaMelo LaFrance Ball (born August 22, 2001) is an American professional basketball player for the Charlotte Hornets of the National Basketball Association (NBA). He was selected by the Hornets with the third overall pick of the 2020 NBA draft.

LaMelo Ball was born on August 22, 2001, in Anaheim, California. His zodiac sign is Leo and his ethnicity is African-American. He is the third son of parents LaVar and Tina Ball. His older brothers are Los Angeles Lakers player Lonzo Ball and New Orleans Pelicans player LiAngelo Ball. LaMelo attended Chino Hills High School for two years before enrolling with SPIRE Institute in Geneva, Ohio for his junior year of high school. 

During his senior season of high school basketball at SPIRE Institute, he averaged 25.7 points, 12.3 rebounds, 11.2 assists, 3 steals and 2 blocks per game while leading the team to a 23–5 record and a No. 5 ranking in the USA Today Super 25 national rankings. He was named a McDonald’s All-American but decided not to play in the game due to an ankle injury. On November 18th 2019, he declared for the 2020 NBA draft and signed with agent Harrison Gaines of Klutch Sports Group on March 28th 2020. 

On June 25th 2020, LaMelo was selected by the Charlotte Hornets with the 3rd overall pick in the first round of the 2020 NBA draft, becoming one of only three players ever drafted to have been coached by their father (his father coached him at SPIRE Institute). In September 2020, LaMelo was named as one of 20 players who were invited to participate in USA Basketball's National Team minicamp ahead of the 2021 FIBA AmeriCup tournament and 2021 Summer Olympics qualifying tournaments.
