Robert Rihmeek Williams, known professionally as Meek Mill, is an American rapper. Born and raised in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, he embarked on his music career as a battle rapper, and later formed a short-lived rap group, The Bloodhoundz. In 2008, Atlanta-based rapper T.I. signed Meek Mill to his first record deal.
Meek Mill, born Robert Rahmeek Williams on May 6, 1987 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, is an American rapper and songwriter. His stage name was derived from his former neighborhood of "Meek's Cutoff" in North Philadelphia. Growing up in a rough neighborhood, he had a difficult childhood, beginning to rap at the age of 12.
Mill's career initially started with him becoming part of the rap group The Bloodhoundz and making his first appearance on a record with them in 2002. However, he rose to prominence after signing with T.I.'s Grand Hustle Records and releasing several mixtapes that gained traction on the internet. He then released his debut album Dreams and Nightmares in 2012 which peaked at number two on the Billboard 200 chart and produced several successful singles such as "Amen".
His follow-up album Dreams Worth More Than Money (2015) debuted at number one on the Billboard 200 chart and was certified double platinum by RIAA. In 2017, Mill made headlines when he was sentenced to prison for violating probation stemming from a 2008 arrest for gun possession and drug dealing charges that were eventually dropped but not before it made its way through the court system multiple times. After being released from prison due to public pressure and support from figures like Jay-Z and other celebrities he went on to release his third studio album Championships (2018).
Mill has since become an advocate for criminal justice reform in the United States, launching REFORM Alliance with Jay-Z amongst other prominent figures such as Meghan Markle and Van Jones aiming to reduce mass incarceration rates nationwide.
