Daniel Dumile, best known by his stage name MF Doom or simply Doom, was a British-American rapper and record producer. Noted for his intricate wordplay, signature metal mask, and "supervillain" stage persona, Dumile became a major figure of underground hip hop and alternative hip hop in the 2000s.
MF DOOM, born Daniel Dumile in 1971, is an English-born American hip hop artist and producer. He is known for his unique rhyme schemes, self-produced beats, and enigmatic persona. His stage name came from the Marvel Comics supervillain Doctor Doom.
He began his career as a member of the group KMD in 1988, before embarking on a solo career with the release of their debut album Mr. Hood in 1991. After KMD was dropped from their label due to its controversial content and the death of his brother Subroc, Dumile disappeared from public life and worked odd jobs while living on the streets of New York City.
In 1997, he reemerged on the rap scene under the MF DOOM moniker and collaborated with several underground artists such as Talib Kweli, Madlib, Danger Mouse, Ghostface Killah and Count Bass D. His debut solo album Operation Doomsday was released in 1999 to critical acclaim and earned him a cult fan base.
In 2003 DOOM started working with producer Madlib to create their collaborative album Madvillainy which was hailed by critics as one of the greatest hip hop albums of all time. In 2004 he released Mm.. Food? which featured production from other well-known producers such as J Dilla, RJD2 and Oh No. The following year he released his third solo album The Mouse And The Mask in collaboration with Adult Swim's Cartoon Network show Aqua Teen Hunger Force.
Since then DOOM has continued to collaborate with other high profile artists such as Danger Mouse on their joint project Danger Doom and Ghostface Killah on their joint LP Swift & Changeable. He also released Born Like This in 2009 and Key To The Kuffs in 2012 both under his own label Lex Records. He most recently released Vaudeville Villain in 2017 featuring production from Madlib, Alchemist, Oh No and others.
