Williams attended San Ysidro High School, where he led his team to two consecutive CIF championships, and was named Division IV Player of the Year in 2019. He then transferred to Lakeview Christian Academy during his junior year and helped lead them to an undefeated season and a state championship. 

In July 2020, Williams committed to play college basketball at Arizona State University. He has also participated in numerous high-level amateur tournaments such as The Drew League and Pangos All-American Camp.

Williams was selected as a McDonald's All-American in 2021, becoming the first freshman in history to accomplish this feat. He has since become a national phenom due to his unique combination of size, skill, athleticism and charisma.
