About

Paul McCartney was born in Liverpool, England on June 18th, 1942. He is an English singer-songwriter who gained worldwide fame as one of the founding members of The Beatles. At a young age, Paul began playing the trumpet and guitar, eventually teaching himself to play the piano. In 1957, he met John Lennon at a church festival and soon after formed The Quarrymen. After undergoing some lineup changes, they changed their name to the Beatles and became an international phenomenon with a string of hit singles and albums.

Paul continued to write songs for the band while also branching out as a solo artist, releasing his debut solo album entitled 'McCartney' in 1970. In 1971 he formed the group Wings with his wife Linda McCartney and released several successful albums such as Band on the Run (1973), Venus and Mars (1975) and London Town (1978). As a solo artist he continued to enjoy success throughout the 1980s with chart topping hits such as 'Ebony and Ivory' (1982) featuring Stevie Wonder and 'Say Say Say' (1983) featuring Michael Jackson.

He has received numerous awards including two Brit Awards for Outstanding Contribution to Music, four Ivor Novello Awards for Songwriting Excellence, seventeen Grammy Awards and an induction into both the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame and UK Music Hall of Fame. He is widely regarded as one of the greatest musicians of all time with over 100 million records sold worldwide as part of The Beatles alone.
