Sir Elton Hercules John, CBE, was born on March 25th, 1947 in Pinner, Middlesex, England. He is a renowned English singer-songwriter, pianist and composer. His full name is Reginald Kenneth Dwight. He began playing piano at the age of three and by the time he was 11 he had won a scholarship to the Royal Academy of Music in London. 

John first started performing with local bands in pubs and clubs before joining Bluesology in 1967. They provided backing for American soul singers like Patti LaBelle and The Drifters. In 1970, he released his debut album Empty Sky which featured one of his most iconic songs “Your Song”. His fourth album Honky Château (1972) sold more than five million copies worldwide and made him an international star.

In 1973 John wrote the musical score to the animated movie The Lion King which earned him an Academy Award for Best Original Song with “Can You Feel The Love Tonight” as well as a Grammy Award for Album of the Year with The Lion King: Original Motion Picture Soundtrack (1994). He has also been awarded multiple Tony Awards including Best Musical Score for Aida (2000). 

John has sold over 300 million albums throughout his career and holds several Guinness World Records including the record for most consecutive hits in the U.K., where he has placed a total of 55 singles in the Top 40 charts between 1975 and 2004. He has performed at some of the world's biggest venues such as Madison Square Garden, Wembley Stadium and Dodger Stadium among others. 

He has also been involved in various charity work including his AIDS Foundation which raised $100 million since its inception in 1992 as well as being knighted by Queen Elizabeth II in 1998 for services to music. It is without a doubt that Sir Elton John is one of the greatest rock stars ever known.
