Robert Anthony Plant CBE is an English singer and songwriter, best known as the lead singer and lyricist of the English rock band Led Zeppelin for all of its existence from 1968 until 1980, when the band broke up following the death of John Bonham, the band's drummer.
Robert Anthony Plant was born on August 20, 1948 in West Bromwich, England. His zodiac sign is Leo and his ethnicity is English. He has four siblings, three sisters and one brother. Plant's father was an engineer and his mother was a housewife. Plant grew up singing in church choirs and local festivals.
At the age of 15, he became interested in blues music after hearing Elvis Presley’s “Heartbreak Hotel” on the radio. He formed his first band with friends and began playing gigs around town, eventually moving to London to pursue his dream of becoming a professional musician.
In 1968, Plant joined the new wave of British heavy metal band Led Zeppelin, which went on to become one of the greatest rock bands of all time. With Led Zeppelin, Plant established himself as one of the leading vocalists in hard rock and heavy metal music. He had an incredible vocal range and was known for his unique style of screaming while singing lyrics that often dealt with mythology or fantasy themes.
Plant left Led Zeppelin in 1980 after releasing six successful albums with them and embarked on a solo career that achieved similar success. In 1983 he released the album The Principle Of Moments which featured his biggest hit single “Big Log” which reached number 8 on the charts in the United States. Throughout his solo career he released nine studio albums which achieved varying levels of commercial success but were always praised by critics for their creativity and originality.
Plant won eight Grammy Awards including two for Album Of The Year for Raising Sand with Alison Krauss (2008) and Band Of Joy (2011). In 2009 he received a Kennedy Center Honor from President Barack Obama for his contributions to American culture through music. In 2020, he was inducted into Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame as a member of Led Zeppelin making him one of few artists to be inducted twice into the Hall Of Fame both as a solo artist and as part of a band.
