About

Tina Turner, born Anna Mae Bullock on November 26, 1939, is a legendary American rock and soul singer-songwriter. She was born in the small town of Nutbush, Tennessee to Zelma Priscilla and Floyd Richard Bullock. Her father had two different families; one with his wife, who he had been married to since 1932, and one with Tina's mother. Turner moved to St. Louis at age 11 with her grandmother.

At 14 years old, she met saxophonist Raymond Hill at a local nightclub where she began singing back up for him for $5 a night. She soon joined the band Kings of Rhythm as the lead singer and started going by the name "Little Ann". With the band, she recorded a single called "Boxtop" which gained some recognition.

In 1960, Ike & Tina Turner released their first album "The Soul of Ike & Tina Turner", which was quickly followed by another single called "A Fool In Love". The song became an instant hit and they were invited to perform on shows like American Bandstand and The Ed Sullivan Show. They went on to achieve more success when they released their second album "River Deep - Mountain High" in 1966.

Turner left her tumultuous marriage with Ike in 1976 and pursued a solo career. Her debut solo album “Private Dancer” was released in 1984 and it spawned four top 10 singles including the worldwide smash hit “What’s Love Got To Do With It?” The album won her multiple Grammy Awards and landed her international superstardom status. Over the course of her career, Tina has sold over 100 million records worldwide making her one of the best selling artists of all time.
