Amy Adams was born in Vicenza, Italy on August 20, 1974. Her zodiac sign is Leo and she is of English, Irish, Scottish, and Welsh descent. She was raised in a Mormon family in Castle Rock, Colorado. Adams' parents divorced when she was 11 years old, and she moved with her mother and siblings to suburban Denver.

Adams got interested in performing as a child, attending both dance classes and community theater. When she was 15 years old, her family moved to Minneapolis where she continued her training at the Unified School of Theater Arts. After graduating high school in 1992, Adams moved to Los Angeles to pursue an acting career.

Adams had limited success early on but soon began landing small roles in films such as Drop Dead Gorgeous (1999) and Cruel Intentions (1999). In 2002 she had her breakout role as Brenda Strong in Catch Me If You Can (2002), for which she received critical acclaim.

In 2004 Adams starred opposite Jake Gyllenhaal in the drama The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants (2004). Following this success she went on to star in Enchanted (2007) for which she earned a Golden Globe nomination for Best Actress. Other notable films include Doubt (2008), Julie & Julia (2009), The Fighter (2010), Man Of Steel (2013), Big Eyes (2014) and Arrival (2016). 

Adams has been nominated for five Academy Awards—for Junebug (2005), Doubt ,The Fighter ,The Master(2012) and American Hustle(2013)—and won two Golden Globes—for American Hustle and Big Eyes—making her one of the most acclaimed actresses working today.
