Belinda Jo Carlisle was born on August 17, 1958 in Hollywood, California. She is an American singer and songwriter best known as the lead vocalist of the Go-Go's, one of the most successful all-female bands of all time. She was born to Harold Carlisle and Joanne Carlson, and has three siblings. Her parents divorced when she was young, and she lived with her mother until they both moved to San Francisco when Belinda was sixteen.

Belinda started singing at a young age and took part in various choirs throughout high school. After graduating from Newbury Park High School in 1976, she got involved with punk rock music and attended punk shows around Los Angeles. In 1978, Belinda formed a band called The Go-Go's with some friends and began performing at local clubs. They soon gained popularity and signed a record deal with I.R.S Records in 1980. Their debut album "Beauty & the Beat" topped the U.S charts for six weeks in 1982 and made them the first all-female group to have an album reach number one on Billboard 200 list.

The group released two more albums before deciding to go separate ways in 1985; however, they reunited several times over the years for tours and special events such as their induction into the Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame in 2001. Belinda also embarked on a solo career after disbanding The Go-Go's, releasing her debut solo album "Heaven on Earth" in 1987 which went platinum worldwide. Since then, she has released seven more studio albums which have been met with critical acclaim, selling millions of copies worldwide.
