William Paxton was an American actor and filmmaker. He appeared in films such as Weird Science, Aliens, Near Dark, Tombstone, True Lies, Apollo 13, Twister, Titanic, A Simple Plan, Edge of Tomorrow, and Nightcrawler.
Bill Paxton was born William Archibald Paxton on May 17, 1955 in Fort Worth, Texas. He was the son of Mary Lou and John Lane Paxton, a businessman and actor. As a child he moved frequently between Fort Worth and Dallas, eventually settling in Los Angeles where he attended high school at Hamilton High School in West Hollywood. After graduating, he studied acting at New York University's Tisch School of the Arts.
Paxton made his screen debut with a minor role as an extra in the 1975 comedy film Crazy Mama. He went on to have roles in several other films throughout the late 1970s and early 1980s before gaining wider recognition for his roles in the 1985 James Cameron science fiction film The Terminator and Aliens (1986). His other notable films include Apollo 13 (1995), Twister (1996), Titanic (1997) and U-571 (2000).
Throughout his career, Paxton has received numerous awards including an Emmy Award nomination for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Miniseries or a Movie for his role as Hermann Goering in the 2001 HBO miniseries “Hitler: The Rise of Evil”. In 2012, he was honored with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
Paxton passed away on February 25, 2017 due to complications from surgery. He is remembered fondly by family, friends and fans alike as one of Hollywood’s most beloved actors.
