He is the son of Alice Rivera and Dan Trejo, and he had two brothers as well. Trejo's father left when he was young, leaving him to be raised by his mother and her new husband. After spending time in prison for various crimes during his teenage years, Trejo began to turn his life around in the late 1960s. His career really took off after he starred opposite Michelle Pfeiffer in the 1995 film Desperado alongside Antonio Banderas. Since then, he has appeared in numerous films such as Heat (1995), Con Air (1997), Spy Kids (2001), Machete (2010) and From Dusk till Dawn (1996). He also had a recurring role on the hit television series Breaking Bad (2008-2013).

In addition to acting, Trejo has been involved with many charitable causes including "The Life Rocks Foundation" which helps homeless youth get back into mainstream society. He also serves as an ambassador for "Casa de Los Niños", a non-profit organization that helps children who are victims of abuse or neglect.
