Brie Larson was born Brianne Sidonie Desaulniers on October 1, 1989, in Sacramento, California. She is an American actress, director and singer. Her mother worked as a seamstress and her father was an environmental consultant. At the age of six, Brie moved with her family from Sacramento to Los Angeles where she began taking dance classes at a local performing arts school. She also took singing lessons and studied acting at the American Conservatory Theater. 

At the age of eight, Brie made her television debut in an episode of "Touched by an Angel," followed by appearances in other shows like "Promised Land" and "Popular." In 2003, she had a major breakthrough when she landed the lead role in the Disney Channel movie "Right on Track" alongside Beverley Mitchell. 

Brie transitioned to movies with roles in "Sleepover" (2004), "13 Going on 30" (2004) and "Hoot" (2006). In 2009, she won a Young Hollywood Award for Breakthrough Performance - Female for her work in the 2008 independent film “Tanner Hall” which earned her nominations for both Independent Spirit Awards and Satellite Awards. She starred in several other independent films such as “The Trouble With Bliss” (2011) and “Don Jon” (2013). 

In 2015, Brie took on the leading role opposite John Goodman in the drama-comedy “Room” which earned her multiple awards including an Academy Award for Best Actress. A few years later she portrayed Captain Marvel/Carol Danvers in Marvel's first female-led superhero movie “Captain Marvel” (2019) followed by another appearance as Captain Marvel/Carol Danvers in Avengers: Endgame (2019).
