Carrie Frances Fisher was born on October 21, 1956 in Beverly Hills, California. She was the daughter of Eddie Fisher and Debbie Reynolds, two Hollywood stars of the 1950s and 1960s. Her parents divorced when she was only two years old and she had a brother named Todd.

Fisher attended Beverly Hills High School but dropped out in her junior year to pursue an acting career. Her big break came in 1975 when she won the role of Princess Leia in Star Wars. The film became one of the biggest hits of all time and made Fisher an international star. She reprised her role in two sequels: The Empire Strikes Back (1980) and Return Of The Jedi (1983).

Fisher also went on to appear in other films such as When Harry Met Sally (1989), Soapdish (1991), Jay And Silent Bob Strike Back (2001) and Charlie's Angels (2000). In addition to her work as an actress, Fisher wrote several books including Postcards From The Edge (1987), which was adapted into a film starring Meryl Streep and Shirley MacLaine. She also wrote Wishful Drinking (2008) and Shockaholic (2011).

In 2016, Fisher died at the age of 60 following a heart attack she suffered while flying from London to Los Angeles. Her death sent shockwaves through Hollywood with many paying tribute to her legacy as a talented actress, writer and feminist icon.
