About

Dwight David Howard was born on December 8, 1985 in Atlanta Georgia. He is an American professional basketball player who plays for the Houston Rockets of the NBA. He is a nine-time All-Star and eight-time All-NBA team selection, as well as a five-time All-Defensive team member. He has won the NBA Defensive Player of the Year Award three times and was named the NBA rebounding leader twice.

Howard began playing basketball at an early age and attended Southwest Atlanta Christian Academy, where he led his high school team to several state championships. After graduating from high school, he decided to forego college eligibility and enter the 2004 NBA draft; he was selected first overall by the Orlando Magic. In his debut season with the Magic, he averaged a double-double and earned many honors, including being named to the All-Rookie Team and becoming the youngest player to ever be selected to play in an NBA All-Star Game. During Howard's tenure with Orlando, he helped lead them to their first playoff appearance in four seasons.

In 2012, Howard made headlines when he requested a trade from Orlando; he was eventually traded to the Los Angeles Lakers in August 2012 and then signed with his hometown Atlanta Hawks in 2016. In 2017, Howard joined his fourth franchise when he signed with Charlotte Hornets before joining Houston Rockets in 2019. On February 17th 2021, Dwight set a new record for most rebounds grabbed by a center in history surpassing Wilt Chamberlain’s record of 23,924 rebounds.
