Damon Albarn OBE (/ˈælbɑːrn/; born 23 March 1968) is an English-Icelandic musician, singer-songwriter and composer, best known as the frontman and primary lyricist of the rock band Blur and as the co-creator and primary musical contributor of the virtual band Gorillaz.

Damon Albarn is an English musician and singer-songwriter born on March 23, 1968, in Whitechapel, London. He is best known as the frontman of Britpop band Blur, as well as being the lead vocalist and songwriter for alternative rock virtual band Gorillaz. His zodiac sign is Aries and his ethnicity is British. 

Albarn's musical career started when he was a student at Stanway Comprehensive School in Colchester, where he formed the group Circus with friends Graham Coxon and Alex James. In 1989, the trio formed Blur and released their debut album Leisure in 1991 which was a success in Britain. The band achieved mainstream success with their second album Modern Life Is Rubbish (1993) and achieved international acclaim with Parklife (1994). In 1997 they released their fifth album Blur which received critical acclaim but sold less well than previous albums. 

In 1998 Albarn formed virtual band Gorillaz with artist Jamie Hewlett, releasing their self-titled debut album in 2001 to worldwide success. Their third album Plastic Beach (2010) received further acclaim and was certified gold by the BPI in the UK. Albarn has also collaborated with many artists such as poet Allen Ginsberg and musicians Miho Hatori, Del tha Funky Homosapien, Bobby Womack and Fatboy Slim. 

Albarn has been involved in various philanthropic activities during his career such as helping to establish a music school in Africa called "Africa Express" which promotes collaboration between African and Western musicians. He also works closely with Oxfam campaigning for social justice around the world.
