Eve Jihan Cooper, known mononymously as Eve, is an American rapper, singer, songwriter, and actress.
Eve Jihan Jeffers-Cooper, better known as Eve, is an American rapper and actress born on November 10, 1978 in Philadelphia. She is of Jamaican and Irish descent. Her father was a chemical plant supervisor and her mother worked for a publishing company.
Eve started rapping at the age of 14, often collaborating with her group of friends called "Edjucation". By the time she was 17, she had already made it to the semi-finals of an amateur rap contest in New York City. After this success, she was offered a record deal by Dr. Dre's label, Aftermath Entertainment.
In 1999, Eve released her debut album "Let There Be Eve...Ruff Ryders' First Lady" which debuted at number one on the Billboard 200 chart and earned her two Grammy Award nominations including Best Female Rap Solo Performance for "Gotta Man". The album also spawned two hit singles: "What Ya Want" featuring Nokio from Dru Hill and "Love Is Blind" featuring Faith Evans.
In 2001, Eve released her second studio album entitled Scorpion which featured collaborations with Alicia Keys and Missy Elliott. The album debuted at number three on the Billboard 200 chart and earned her another Grammy nomination for Best Rap Album. The lead single from the album "Who's That Girl" peaked at number seven on the Billboard Hot 100 chart.
Throughout her career, Eve has collaborated with many popular artists including Gwen Stefani, DMX and Ja Rule. In 2009, she returned to music after a five year break with her third studio album Lip Lock where she reunited with Dr. Dre as executive producer. Since then she has continued to make music and make appearances in films such as Barbershop (2002) and Whip It (2009).
