Fran Drescher was born on September 30, 1957 in Queens, New York City. She is of Jewish descent and is the youngest of two children. Her father, Morty Drescher, worked as a bridal consultant while her mother, Sylvia Drescher, was an aircraft engineer. 

Drescher attended Hillcrest High School in Jamaica Estates, where she graduated in 1975. She then went on to study at Queens College for three years before dropping out to begin her career as an actress. Drescher made her television debut when she appeared as a contestant on the game show “Jackpot” in 1978. She then had a recurring role as Carol on the ABC series “Ryan’s Hope” from 1982-1983. 

In 1984, Drescher landed her breakthrough role as Fran Fine on the CBS sitcom “The Nanny." The show ran for six seasons and earned multiple awards and nominations including four Emmy Award nominations for Drescher. 

After “The Nanny," Drescher starred in films such as Jack (1996), Cadillac Man (1990), and The Beautician And The Beast (1997). She also wrote two books: Enter Whining (1996) and Cancer Schmancer (2007). In addition, she served as executive producer for Living With Fran (2005-2006) and Happily Divorced (2011-2013). 

In 2014, Drescher launched a lifestyle brand called "Cancer Schmancer" aimed at helping people prevent cancer by advocating for early detection and preventive measures. In 2019, she returned to television with the comedy series "Indebted," which aired on NBC until its cancellation in 2020.
