Iman Asante Shumpert is an American professional basketball player who last played for the Brooklyn Nets of the National Basketball Association. Shumpert was selected by the New York Knicks with the 17th overall pick in the 2011 NBA draft. He won an NBA championship with the Cleveland Cavaliers in 2016.
Iman Asante Shumpert was born on June 26, 1990 in Chicago, Illinois. He is an American professional basketball player who currently plays for the Brooklyn Nets of the National Basketball Association (NBA). He played college basketball for Georgia Tech before entering the 2011 NBA draft, where he was selected by the New York Knicks with the 17th overall pick.
Shumpert was an immediate contributor off the bench for the Knicks during his rookie season and earned a starting role in December of that same year. He was named to the 2012 NBA All-Rookie First Team and was a part of two postseason runs with the Knicks during his tenure there. In 2015, he was traded to the Cleveland Cavaliers as part of a three-team deal. With Cleveland, Shumpert helped lead them to their first championship in franchise history during the 2015–16 season when they defeated Golden State 4–3 in the Finals.
In 2019, Shumpert signed with the Sacramento Kings. In 2020, he was traded to Brooklyn, where he still currently plays today. Shumpert is known for his defensive prowess and has been recognized as one of the league's better perimeter defenders since entering the league.
