Katie McGrath was born on 24th October 1983 in Ashford, County Wicklow, Ireland. She attended Dublin Institute of Technology to study journalism and media studies. She got her start as a wardrobe assistant at the BBC show Merlin. She eventually made her debut as an actress in 2008 with the dark fantasy horror film The Rising.

McGrath went on to appear in several TV shows such as The Tudors, A Princess for Christmas, Labyrinth, Me Before You and Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom. In 2017, she began portraying Lena Luthor in the television series Supergirl.

In addition to acting, McGrath has also ventured into other aspects of the entertainment industry. She is a voice actor and has lent her voice to several documentaries including Ireland's Digital Revolution and Mary Shelley's Frankenstein among others. She also works as a model and has appeared in campaigns for brands like Wonderbra and UGG Australia.
