Neil Leslie Diamond is an American singer-songwriter. He has sold more than 130 million records worldwide, making him one of the best-selling musicians of all time.
Neil Leslie Diamond was born on January 24, 1941, in Brooklyn, New York. His zodiac sign is Aquarius, and his ethnicity is Ashkenazi Jewish. He was the son of Akeeba Kieve Diamond, an immigrant from Russia, and Rose Diamond. Neil had two siblings: a sister named Eileen and a brother named Jack. Neil's parents were very religious and he attended the yeshiva of Flatbush for elementary school.
When Neil was 16 years old, he started to write songs and perform them at local venues. In 1960, he moved to Los Angeles with an ambition to become a professional singer-songwriter. In 1961, he signed a contract with Columbia Records as a staff writer and released his first single later that year titled "At Night". It failed to chart but this didn't stop him from pursuing his dream. He continued to write songs for other artists until 1966 when he released his debut album "The Feel Of Neil Diamond", which achieved moderate success. In 1967, his song "Solitary Man" became a hit single; it peaked at #7 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart and #2 on the Easy Listening chart. From then on, Neil started releasing more successful albums such as "Hot August Night" (1972), "Beautiful Noise" (1976), "Headed For The Future" (1986) and many others throughout the years.
In 1991, Neil received the Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award for his contributions to American culture through music. In 2011, he was inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame; in 2018 he received Kennedy Center Honors for lifetime achievement in culture. To this day, Neil is still an active musician; he has released 17 studio albums from 1968 to 2017 and continues to tour around the world performing live concerts for fans everywhere.
