Chris Martin was born on March 2, 1977, in Exeter, England. He is an English singer-songwriter and actor best known as the lead vocalist of the rock band Coldplay. He was raised Catholic and attended Exeter Cathedral School before going to University College London to study Greek and Latin.

Martin's musical career began when he met guitarist Jonny Buckland at University College London in 1996. They formed the band Pectoralz which later became known as Coldplay. The band released their debut album Parachutes in 2000 to great success, and it has since gone on to sell over 8 million copies worldwide. The success of Parachutes led to them being nominated for a Mercury Prize for Best Album of the Year in 2001.

In 2002, Coldplay released their second album A Rush of Blood To The Head which further cemented their place in music history with singles such as "The Scientist" and "Clocks". This album won two Grammys and went on to be a huge commercial success selling over 14 million copies worldwide. In 2005, they released their third album X&Y which featured hit singles such as "Speed Of Sound" and "Fix You". This album also achieved critical acclaim and sold over 10 million copies globally.

In 2008, Martin made his acting debut in the film Inkheart playing Dustfinger alongside Helen Mirren and Brendan Fraser. In 2009, he contributed music to the films The Boat That Rocked and New Moon through his song "Death Will Never Conquer". In 2010, he provided vocals for the film How To Train Your Dragon for its soundtrack along with Jonsi from Sigur Ros on the song "Sticks & Stones". In 2014, Martin collaborated with U2 frontman Bono on a charity single called "Ordinary Love".

Martin has also been involved with various charitable causes throughout his career including Amnesty International, Make Poverty History, Keep A Child Alive, RED Campaign and Oxfam's UK famine relief campaign. He has also been awarded numerous awards including multiple Grammy Awards, Brit Awards and MTV Video Music Awards.
