Peter Brian Gabriel was born on February 13, 1950, in Chobham, Surrey, England. He is an English singer-songwriter, musician and humanitarian who rose to fame as the original lead singer of the progressive rock band Genesis. His zodiac sign is Aquarius and his ethnicity is British.

Gabriel's musical career began in 1967 when he joined Genesis as the lead singer and flutist. He wrote many of the band's most popular songs including "The Carpet Crawlers", "Supper's Ready", and "Watcher of the Skies". He left the band in 1975 to pursue a solo career and released his debut album Peter Gabriel in 1977. His second studio album, titled Scratch, was released in 1978 and featured some of his most successful singles such as "Solsbury Hill" and "Games Without Frontiers".

He continued to release albums throughout the 1980s which included So (1986) and Us (1992). The album So sold over 5 million copies worldwide and won him a Grammy Award for Album of the Year. His songwriting style changed from progressive rock to more pop-oriented music during this time. In 2002, he released Up which featured collaborations with various artists such as Neneh Cherry, Sinead O'Connor, Paul Buchanan, and David Rhodes. In 2010 he released Scratch My Back which included cover versions of various artists' songs alongside original compositions. 

In addition to his music career, Gabriel has also been involved in various humanitarian efforts including founding WITNESS - an organization that uses video footage to document human rights abuses - in 1992. He has also served as president of The Elders - a group of world leaders convened by Nelson Mandela - since its inception in 2007.
