Davis attended Perspectives Charter School in Chicago where he quickly gained attention for his basketball skills. He led the school to three consecutive state championships and two national titles. During his senior year he averaged 28 points, 12 rebounds and 8 blocks per game which earned him several accolades including All American honours by Parade Magazine and McDonald's All-American honours.

Davis declared for the 2012 NBA Draft following his freshman season at the University of Kentucky and was selected first overall by the New Orleans Pelicans. He was named to the NBA All-Rookie First Team at the end of the season after averaging 13.5 points, 8 rebounds and 1.8 blocks per game - making him one of only four rookies since 1985 to average at least 10 points, 5 rebounds, 1 block per game before turning 20 years old that year.

In 2017, Davis was selected as an NBA All-Star for the first time after averaging 28 points, 11 rebounds, 2 blocks and 2 assists per game - making him the first player since Shaquille O’Neal in 2000 to average more than 28 points, 11 rebounds and 2 blocks per game over a full season. In 2018 he won gold with Team USA at the FIBA World Cup after leading all players with 14 rebounds per game throughout tournament play.

In 2019 Davis was traded from New Orleans Pelicans to Los Angeles Lakers where he currently plays alongside star LeBron James - forming one of the most powerful duos in recent NBA history.
