Blake Austin Griffin (born March 16, 1989) is an American professional basketball player for the Boston Celtics of the National Basketball Association (NBA). He played college basketball for the Oklahoma Sooners, when he was named the consensus national college player of the year as a sophomore.
Blake Austin Griffin was born on March 16, 1989 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. His zodiac sign is Pisces and his ethnicity is African-American. He is the son of Tommy Griffin and Gail Griffin and has two older brothers. Growing up, Griffin always loved sports and was an avid basketball fan. In high school, he attended Oklahoma Christian School where he played basketball and helped lead the team to a state championship in his senior year.
After high school, Griffin attended the University of Oklahoma where he continued to excel at basketball. He was named Big 12 Freshman of the Year in 2009 and was also selected for the first team All-Big 12 in his sophomore year. In 2009, he entered the NBA draft and was selected with the first overall pick by the Los Angeles Clippers.
Griffin won the slam dunk contest at All-Star weekend during his rookie season and made it to the playoffs for the first time that same year as well. He also won Rookie of the Year honors that season as well as being named an All-Star for five straight seasons from 2011 to 2015. During this time period, he also led the Clippers to four straight playoff appearances from 2012 to 2015 but they were unable to advance past the second round during any of those years.
In 2017, Griffin suffered a knee injury which caused him to miss most of that season's games. Afterward he signed with Detroit Pistons, who traded for him after being released by Los Angeles Clippers earlier that year. He had a successful season with them before opting out of his contract in 2018 and signing with Brooklyn Nets in 2021 where he currently plays alongside Kevin Durant, Kyrie Irving and James Harden.
